More than twenty years ago, Children for Christ Ministry (CFCM) began with a group of students at the Evangelical Bible College of Malawi (EBCoM) who shared a passion for helping children hear and understand God’s Word. Recognising that children’s ministry was often overlooked in local churches, they committed themselves to training Sunday school teachers wherever support was needed.
Today, the partnership between EBCoM and CFCM remains strong. CFCM continues to provide training for students, while offering practical ministry opportunities through its Bible clubs. These experiences allow students to apply their learning and develop valuable skills in children’s ministry while still at college.
During the last week of July, CFCM Staff Team, Elevate Mizinga and Joseph Jeke, spent an intensive week at EBCoM, delivering Level 1 training to 45 first-year students. Below, the students are pictured practicing sharing the Gospel message using the Wordless Book. At the same time, 26 students were completing Level 3 of the CFCM training programme and underwent assessments to demonstrate their understanding of the material.
One of the key challenges for many Bible college students was learning to move beyond “preacher mode” and communicate Bible truths in ways that are engaging, clear, and appropriate for children. Throughout the training, the team emphasised that success was not simply about completing a course, but about developing a genuine understanding of how to teach children effectively. This high standard of training is designed to equip students with the confidence and practical skills needed to train Sunday school teachers in their own churches and communities.
As a result of their efforts, 20 students successfully completed the assessments and received certificates.
The impact of the training was immediate and encouraging. Many students expressed a strong desire to begin serving straight away by helping at CFCM Bible clubs in Blantyre. Others shared their enthusiasm for continuing through all levels of the CFCM certification programme, an opportunity that will be available to them when further training takes place in September.
After helping to award the certificates, EBCoM’s Academic Dean, Mrs Halawa, encouraged the students by highlighting the example of CFCM Team Leader, Elevate Mizinga, an EBCoM graduate herself. After completing her studies, Elevate helped establish CFCM and has faithfully continued reaching children with the gospel ever since, balancing ministry alongside a demanding academic and professional career.
Mrs Halawa’s message challenged and inspired the students, demonstrating how the training they received could produce lasting fruit in their future ministries. Her words reinforced the value of investing in children’s ministry and reminded the students of the significant impact they can make in the lives of children across Malawi.
As these students prepare for future roles as pastors and church workers throughout the country, we pray that their commitment to children’s ministry will remain strong. We also thank God for the continued growth of CFCM and pray that He will bless and strengthen this ministry as it equips future generations to share His Word with children.
