Easter Hope in Action Across Malawi

This Easter, God was powerfully at work among the children of Malawi. Over five unforgettable days, CFCM teams delivered Easter 5‑Day Clubs in five locations, proclaiming the Gospel through stories of lives radically turned around. Attendance soared, hearts were changed, and families noticed the difference — all made possible by committed volunteers who refused to let rain, distance or hardship stand in the way of reaching children with the good news.

From 6–10 April, CFCM ran Easter 5‑Day Clubs in five different locations. The theme at every club was “Turned Around”, as children explored Bible stories of lives transformed by God — Zaccheus, Mephibosheth, Noah, the Ethiopian treasurer and Saul. Through teaching, songs, activities and counselling, children were clearly shown how God can change hearts and lives through Jesus.

In Blantyre, CFCM staff members Elevate and Joseph, together with volunteers Frank Mikondo, Mrs Sanga and Pastor Chanacho, ran two vibrant clubs at Pensulo and Mulunguzi. In Mangochi, Esther Lipenga led a club supported by committed helpers from her church and local community. Further north in Rumphi, volunteer trainers Karen and Beatrice were joined by Pastor Tembo, while in Phalombe, Gomani, Gazeni and Namalenga ran a deeply impactful club in Makumbi village. Across every location, teams worked closely together with a shared passion for teaching the Gospel clearly and caring well for the children through prayer and counselling.

Attendance increased steadily throughout the week. On the first day, 338 children attended — rising to over 800 children on the final day. Although the rainy season had not fully ended, and heavy rain fell in the southern region during the week, nothing could stop the children from coming.

Paul Gazeni described the life‑changing impact of five precious days of Gospel teaching in Makumbi village: “So many children are fond of bad practices like rudeness, fighting, laziness, betting, and absenteeism from school and church. But when they turned up to the Bible club they were eager and interested to learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Children recognised their sin and how far they fall short of the glory of God. Many repented, gave their lives to Jesus and changed their old ways. Some parents testified that after we started the sessions their children started behaving well in their homes. Children enjoyed the sessions and wanted us to carry on the next week!”

Pastor Tembo reflected on the lasting effect of the 5-Day Club at Rumphi: “The importance of the event cannot be emphasized enough. For some of our volunteers it was their first time to hold this kind of event. Their involvement has been superb and they have been refreshed and encouraged.  It has been a milestone as far as children’s ministry is concerned. The children have wholeheartedly received the event – evidenced by their daily coming in large numbers and active learning. More bible clubs will be launched in this area as a result of the 5-Day Club.

Esther Lipenga also testified to the transformation she witnessed among the children in Mangochi and expressed heartfelt thanks to those who made the outreach possible: “Finally, we here at the church thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support you give us — you pray for us, give us guidance and good plans, and also financial support. Thank you.”

The work does not stop here. Encouraged by the response of the children, volunteers are committed to continuing weekly programmes and starting new clubs in their communities. Some would love to run 5-Day Clubs during other school holidays.

Their dedication was demonstrated in remarkable ways. With petrol for the CFCM vehicle available only on the black market at extortionate prices — and motorbike taxis unreliable due to poor road conditions — the Blantyre team refused to let the children down. On the first day, they walked to both venues, completing a 20‑kilometre round trip so the clubs could go ahead.

This Easter, God truly turned lives around — and the fruit of these five days will continue to grow.
